Course Description

This course will cover “Social Security Benefit and Medicare – Understanding the Benefits”.  This knowledge may help build relationships with clients looking for help to better understand these two programs.

  

For many Americans, Social Security is a large part of their retirement income. Medicare can be a large part of their medical cost protection safety net.  Understanding the fundamentals is an important part of the retirement planning experience.

 

 

Learning Objectives

  1. Our discussion will begin with an overview of Social Security benefits beginning with “Why Social Security claiming strategies? Why now?”One answer is the retirement of the first wave of post World War II babies, known as the Baby Boomers, at a time when pensions are becoming rarer.Social Security provides lifetime income; also survivor benefits in some cases.

  2. We will cover filing decisions including a number of options whether your client is single, married, divorced or widowed.

  3. We will cover Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO) provisions.

  4. Our discussion will also include an introduction to Medicare and provide a general understanding of the multiple choices offered by Medicare.
