Chris is Vice President of Strategy Research and Portfolio Manager for the Active Factor Suite of ETFs. He has over 16 years of financial services industry experience. Chris is responsible for developing and implementing quantitative equity investment strategies and has been a member of the First Trust Advisors Sub-Equity Investment Committee since 2018.


Chris received his BS in Business Administration from John Brown University and a Masters in Data Science from Northwestern University. He is a recipient of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and is a member of the CFA Institute, the CFA Society of Chicago as well as the Chicago Quantitative Alliance.

Chris Stack, Esq. Managing Consultant, Savingforcollege.com, is a nationally recognized 529 authority and experienced in educational finance. An attorney for over 25 years, licensed in New York & Pennsylvania, Chris has experience in finance, investments and law relating to tax-advantaged products, including Section 529, since it became federal law in 1996. As a partner at a major New York law firm, he advocated to his state clients the benefits of 529 programs and beginning in 1997 served as the principal or participating author for a number of states’ legislation establishing 529 programs. He assisted several states implement their 529 saving programs which now service over $15B in assets.


He has been leading Savingforcollege.com LLC consulting and educational services since 2001. He is intimately familiar with the provisions of Section 529 itself, as well as the various state programs. Currently, Chris advises and consults with states and investment companies, and presents nationally to employers, financial advisors, accountants, attorneys and actual investors on 529 plans.


Chris is a graduate of Fordham College and Fordham University School of Law, located in New York City. He has participated in 529 programs for his two boys since 1997.

Course Description
While 529 plans were originally designed to allow families to save and invest for college, there are many features that participants may benefit from in ways most are unaware of.  This presentation "turns the page" on 529s to explore their numerous benefits and the mechanics of how to maximize their value, particularly in light of the new tax laws.  Income tax, gift & estater tax, creditor protetion, beneficiary flexibility and other features will be discussed.  It will present how the clients can get these numerous fenefits for the cost of a mutual fund.  The presentation will conclude with questions & answers.

Kathryn joined Advanced Sales in 2010. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in Sociology and her law degree from Western New England University. Kathryn began her career as a financial advisor for American Express Financial Advisors prior to coming to MassMutual as well as working for the US Attorney’s office in Springfield during law school.

Kathryn spent a year away from MassMutual in private practice in a large Springfield MA firm, practicing in the areas of estate planning, business succession planning, and entrepreneurial law, including formation of legal entities, transition of business interests, advising existing businesses, and drafting estate plans for individuals and families.  She rejoined Advanced Sales in the summer of 2018.

Kathryn is a member of both the Pioneer Valley and Hampden County Estate Planning Councils and is a frequent volunteer at the Hampden County Probate Court‘s lawyer for a day program.  Kathryn serves on the Advisory Committee for It Takes a Village, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping young families in Western MA.  She also is the registrar, fundraising chair, a board member and soccer coach for Belchertown Soccer Club.  She is admitted to practice law in Massachusetts and Connecticut.

Course Description:

This CE classroom presentation will focus on how you can help your clients that are contemplating or going through a divorce. Learn the major income, gift and estate tax issues that may arise during this process. Explore the difference and impact on asset division for clients living in community property states versus common law states. Understand state laws may automatically void certain aspects of the estate plan when the divorce is final and the importance of the client reviewing and updating his or her estate plan and basic planning documents in a timely manner. Recognize the unintended tax and non-tax consequences where retirement assets and IRAs are not properly transferred and beneficiary designations are not timely updated.
