An Attorney, Chartered Life Underwriter, Chartered Financial Consultant and Chartered Special Needs Consultant, Dave is Advanced Markets Analysis Manager with the companies of OneAmerica in Indianapolis, Indiana. He provides support to a national field force with estate planning, retirement planning, business planning, and technical
issues involved with product sales.


Dave also authors position papers regarding advanced markets concepts and assists with the development of sales ideas and selling techniques. Dave has authored articles for the Journal of Financial Service Professionals and other industry publications. Additionally, Dave conducts education seminars nationally for the member companies of
OneAmerica and has been a guest speaker for numerous industry organizations.

 

Among others, he has developed and presented seminars for the following corporate entities: American United Life
Insurance Company; The State Life Insurance Company; Pioneer Mutual Life Insurance Company; and, The Cincinnati Life Insurance Company.  He also has been a guest speaker at numerous local, state and regional chapters of the following industry organizations: The Society of Financial Service Professionals; The Association of Insurance & Financial Advisors; Estate Planning Councils; Financial Planning Associations; Marketing Organizations; and, Producer Groups.  Dave graduated Cum Laude from the Honors College of Ball State University in 1981 and received his law degree Cum Laude, Order of Barristers, from the Indiana University School of Law in 1989.


Dave practiced law both in Columbus, Indiana and Indianapolis, Indiana before beginning his employment with OneAmerica in 1992. The American College, Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania awarded Dave the designation Chartered Life Underwriter in 1997, Chartered Financial Consultant in 1999 and Chartered Special Needs Consultant in 2019.

Description:

Unconsidered Consequences is a look at the results of failing to have a conversation with your clients about long-term care.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn about the demographics of long-term care: the probability of needing care and the cost

  • Learn that the important thing is to get people to consider the consequences of long-term care and that people assess risk and consequence differently

  • Examine the sources of funding for long-term care including government benefits, self-funding and long-term care insurance

  • Learn the differences between health-based and asset-based long-term care insurance

  • Be able to determine efficient funding for long-term care risk and when to implement the plan

John started his career as an internal wholesaler with Integrity Life Insurance, a subsidiary of Western Southern Life Insurance. His primary focus was on helping clients invest for, live in, and mitigate risk during retirement. John joined Penn Mutual in 2012 as the region's first Internal Marketing Representative. During that time he learned how to design and implement the advanced strategies Penn Mutual is known for.

In this session, John discusses Retirement Income Diversification.  He addresses the concerns of retirement including alternate sources of retirement income, market downturns, and portfolio strengthening.  He will offer a strategy for retirement and discuss each component which includes the benefits of having life insurance, life insurance income vs. investment income, locking in losses, and how this strategy strengthens the portfolio.

John Means has over 40 years in the insurance business with specialization in Medicare and Senior Insurance Products.  He is a brokerage insurance owner and consultant for Senior Marketing.  He is a nationally recognized speaker and trainer, having trained over 4000 agents for many major national companies.  John is a main platform speaker for motivational and training sessions all over the United States.

 

He developing complete senior marketing programs from agent training to upper management education on senior insurance.  Currently, he is the Senior Marketing Manager for Midwest Insurance Marketers of America, and a board member and advisor to Means and Associates Insurance.

Holly Fisher

Holly Fisher  is currently Vice President of Marketing and Sales of Midwest Insurance Marketers of America. Midwest is an Indianapolis, Indiana based insurance brokerage agency, established in 1988 as a major sales, marketing and product distribution organization for various life and health insurance carrier products.  She has been with Midwest for 32 years. 

 

Midwest's employee base has a combined experience of over 100 years in the industry.  Their product portfolio consists of individual/group major medical plans, life, disability income, senior long term care, Medicare supplement, and senior medical advantage plans.

In this session, John and Holly will discuss the Medicare program.  They will provide an introduction to the program and give an overview of key components including:

  • Part B

  • Medigap / Supplements

  • Premium means testing

She specializes helping financial advisors and insurance producers build their business and strengthen client relationships. As a National Speaker, she has helped advisor’s and their clients navigate a wide range of topics including Medicare, Social Security, Retirement Planning, Tax strategies and Women and Investing. She has nearly a decade of experience helping clients identify and appraise the value and quality of their advisor relationship including planning and leveraging their advisor’s knowledge. Traci utilizes simplicity and education to help clients realize more meaningful engagements with their advisors as an ongoing practice that will impact their planning success. She also specializes in providing Advisors valuable feedback and client insights to help them identify and capitalize on actionable cross sale opportunities, emerging demographics and trends impacting their marketing strategies.

She has been married for 30 years and has four adult children and a dog named Ralph. Traci obtained her motorcycle license in 2020 and now rides a Kawasaki Ninja sport bike. She considers herself a news junkie and enjoys reading, traveling and roller coasters.

Overview:

Society spends a lot of time talking about retirement planning. But, arguably, we’ve been too myopically focused on the discussion. Our formula has been M (money) + R (retirement) = H (happiness). But, for many retirees, once they retire, that equation doesn’t add up. We are leaving out a fundamental part of the equation, P (purpose). In this presentation, Traci will discuss some of the challenges and opportunities retirees experience in retirement once they realize that money can’t buy happiness.
